Derek Hough's pet name for Cheryl Cole is 'Dimples'

The 25-year-old dancer was so delighted when his rumoured girlfriend landed a judging role on the US version of 'The X Factor' after he helped her rehearse that he sent her a bunch of roses with a message which included his special name for her.
Derek's note read: 'Congratulations Dimples. You're a superstar . I knew you would do it. D x (sic)'

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'Derek spent hours with Cheryl practising for her screen tests at Fox and saw all the stress she went through when the producers gave her such a hard time. He was made up for her when she finally got the gig.'

While Cheryl is worried that viewers will find her strong Newcastle accent difficult to understand, Derek has promised to help her with some American sayings to win over the Stateside audience.

Cheryl will join Simon Cowell, record executive L.A. Reid and former 'American Idol' judge Paula Abdul - on the panel for the talent show.

Speaking about Cheryl's new role, Simon said: "With Cheryl, when I hired her initially I'd only met her literally once when I offered her the job on 'The X Factor'. I thought she was bright, cute, knew what she was talking about, ambitious.

"You meet someone special a few times in your life. This girl is special. She's got a great ability to communicate. She's a great judge. She's smart. It's just a hunch. If people take to her like the British public did, I think she's going to do really well in America. Fox were desperate to hire her.'
